Memories of Islington

Barrage ballon over highbury fields. The lamplighter following the milkmans horse to collect the horse dung for the garden produce eg (tomatoes). The rag man, farthing for the return of jam jars, pig bins at the bottom of the road, Trams, tar block burning in grate and the smell of tar, the cane at school and being asked which cane would you like to be caned with, most front doors had a key on a piece of string behind the letter box, Bread and dripping for tea , handme down clothes, bathing in the old tin tub after brothers and sisters putting the iron on the gas to iron clothes and to spit on it to see if it was hot enough. I could go on and on. Michael.
