Release 2 of Ancestry's British Phone Books Collection
Ancestry.co.uk have added over 54 million new records to their British Phone Books Collection.
, which cover the period between 1880 and 1984. Simple searches can be made by supplying a last name and county, or more advanced searches can be made by supplying additional data, such as a street name.Pages within the phone books can be viewed, many of which contain local advertisements. If you find a relative listed within the books, information will include their name, address and telephone number.
“This collection contains British phone books published between 1880, the year after the public telephone service was introduced to the UK, and 1984, from the historic phone book collection held by BT Archives. Currently the database contains 430 phone books covering London and large parts of Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent, Middlesex, and Surrey.” (Ancestry.co.uk, Oct 2006).
